Expat - New York

Jean George, NYC

Eek, this post is long overdue! Especially since our 3rd wedding anniversary is coming around the corner!

I gave Husband a cotton shirt with a panda on it as his 2nd wedding anniversary gift, because in the US the 2nd year gift is cotton.

Husband’s parents had gifted us a restaurant gift voucher at Christmas time (and part birthday presents) and we decided to use it for our anniversary so we could go to a fancy pants place to eat.

I looked up all the participating restaurants in New York and after rounding it down to either Jean George or Daniel, I decided to go with Jean George.

When we arrived, we were seated at our table which faced the rest of the restaurant. The tables next to us were also couples and as we later found out, were also celebrating some type of birthday or anniversary.

Now it’s time to look at some photos of fancy foods:

The food

Cocktails to start – Amaretto sour
Diver Scallops,Caramelized Cauliflower, Caper-Raisin Emulsion
Yellowfin Tuna Ribbons, Avocado, Spicy Radish and Ginger Marinade
Undercooked Halibut
Sourdough Crusted Salmon, Creamed Fava Beans and Lime
Black Sea BassCrusted with Nuts and Seeds, Sweet and Sour Jus
Muscovy Duck Breast Topped with Cracked Jordan Almonds, Amaretto Jus
Rhubarb plate
Selection of cheeses
Complimentary ‘Happy Anniversary’ cake
Petit Fours
Complimentary bag with chocolates

Verdict: Jean George

The service was not bad. However we had faults with our orders which was pretty bad for such a high end restaurant. Firstly, our Amaretto sours came without the sour and then, my Halibut came out cold and raw in the middle. For those reasons, I would not return. And not only that, I still have regrets of not going to Daniel.
