Almost any New York guide book will tell you to head to Levain Bakery up on the Upper West Side and grab a cookie, or two.
Not being one to turn away from a cookie, or two, Husband and I headed up to UWS in November.
The ‘thing’ about Levain cookies is that they are big. Not big in diameter. Big as in height, so they almost look like a poorly shaped scone.

After we lined up for about 10 minutes, we ordered the Chocolate Chip Walnut, Dark Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip cookies, plus the chocolate chip brioche.
They are not the best cookies I have ever had in my life and I am unsure if they are deserving of all the ‘hype’ they have received.

To sum it up – if I was not taking an out of town visitor to go, I would only go back if I was a) in the neighborhood and b) there wasn’t a line.

Otherwise I don’t think it would be worth the effort to travel and wait, because you could get a cookie as tasty elsewhere.
